Dr. Adam Brickler
Dr. Brickler is a highly experienced Clinical and Forensic Psychologist who has dedicated his career to the intersection of psychology, medicine, and the law. Currently practicing at Edelson Forensics in Louisville, Kentucky, he works alongside Dr. Richard Edelson to conduct neuropsychological and psychological evaluations. His forensic expertise is utilized by defense and plaintiff attorneys, insurance companies, and others to address critical legal questions. This work encompasses a broad range of cases, including personal injury, medical malpractice, competency to stand trial, insanity defenses, and mitigation factors at sentencing.
Dr. Brickler’s clinical foundation is rooted in nearly two decades of service at Edelson and Associates of Kentucky. In the outpatient setting, he specialized in comprehensive diagnostic assessments to differentiate between normal age-related cognitive changes and various forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s and Lewy Body Disease. His expertise also extends to the acute inpatient setting; from 2009 to 2024, he served on an interdisciplinary team at Baptist Health Louisville’s rehabilitation unit. There, he performed early-stage assessments for patients recovering from strokes and traumatic brain injuries, helping to identify specific cognitive deficits and clarify the etiology of impairments to optimize recovery and discharge planning. Dr. Brickler also provided assessment and consultation for an inpatient psychiatric treatment unit at Baptist Hospital for more than 15 years.
In addition to his neuropsychological work, Dr. Brickler has served as a Bariatric Psychologist at TJ Samson Hospital since 2011. In this role, he conducts essential pre-surgical psychological evaluations to assess patient readiness for bariatric procedures. He evaluates patient motivation, mental health history, and social support systems to ensure individuals are emotionally and behaviorally prepared for the lifelong changes required for successful weight loss and long-term well-being.
Dr. Brickler earned his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University Bloomington in 2002 before pursuing advanced graduate studies at Spalding University in Louisville. He completed his Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2005, followed by his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.), which was conferred in January 2008. During his doctoral studies, he served as a Graduate Assistant supporting faculty with instructor-related duties.
His formal education was supplemented by high-level clinical placements, including a Doctoral Internship at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago. This APA-accredited internship provided specialized training in adult clinical psychology and neuropsychology, featuring rotations in neuropsychology, geropsychiatry, biofeedback, and health psychology. He also completed an Advanced Practicum in Behavioral Medicine and Neuropsychology at Christopher East Healthcare Facility, where he provided interventions for geriatric inpatients and conducted evaluations for severe neurological conditions, including brain tumors and intracranial hemorrhages.
Dr. Brickler maintains active membership in several prominent professional organizations. He is a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN) and the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN).
